Macaca fuscata is an Old World monkey native to Japan, inhabiting forests across the islands, including regions where snow remains on the ground for much of the winter. Its thick brownish fur enables it to endure low temperatures, and it lives in structured social groups, with some populations observed sitting in hot springs during the colder months. They can be aggressive within their own troops, and although they have become accustomed to humans in some areas, particularly where food is involved, they may at times behave boldly or even aggressively.
