An indigenous Sicilian dairy breed, the Belice Valley sheep was developed through the cross-breeding of Sarda, Comisana, and Pinzirita stock to ensure high milk yields and resilience to the Mediterranean climate. It is primarily celebrated for its rich milk, which serves as the essential raw material for producing Vastedda della Valle del Belìce, a rare and traditional spun-curd sheep cheese.
