The Dancing House

A prominent example of deconstructivist architecture situated on the Rašín Embankment in Prague, the Nationale-Nederlanden building was designed by the Croatian-Czech architect Vlado Milunić in cooperation with architect Frank Gehry. The building was completed in 1996 and stands on a site previously destroyed during the 1945 bombing of Prague. It is commonly known as the Dancing House or Builiding, as the two central towers are thought to resemble a pair of dancers, and was also nicknamed Fred and Ginger, a name Gehry himself used during the design process. Its unconventional shape is formed by ninety-nine concrete panels, each of a different shape and dimension, supported by a framework of curved pillars. The building contains a mixture of office spaces, a luxury hotel, and a gallery dedicated to contemporary Czech art.
