| The Central Post Office of Mexico City was designed by the Italian architect Adamo Boari, working with the Mexican engineer Gonzalo Garita y Frontera, and was built between 1902 and 1907 in an eclectic style drawing strongly on Spanish Renaissance and Gothic traditions. The decorative work was carried out by a combination of Mexican craftsmen and European specialists, with bronze and iron elements produced by the Pignone foundry in Florence and interior painting undertaken by the Italian artist Bartolomeo Gallotti. Richly ornamented stonework includes carved grotesques and gargoyle figures along the exterior, contributing to the building’s theatrical and highly decorative character. |
