| The lighthouse is situated on the eastern tip of the Dutch peninsula Marken, in the IJsselmeer. Designed by Jan Valk and built in 1839, it stands 16 metres (52 feet) tall. As with many lighthouses worldwide, it has been automated and is now remotely controlled, though the original structure remains intact, preserving its historical and architectural significance. |
