| Located on the northeast coast of Tasmania, the Bay of Fires is renowned for its natural beauty, featuring pristine beaches, crystal-clear waters, and striking granite boulders with distinctive orange hues. The name was given by explorer Tobias Furneaux in 1773, after seeing the numerous campfires of local Indigenous people along the coast. The distinctive orange hue of the granite boulders is primarily due to the presence of lichens, symbiotic associations between fungi and algae, which contribute to the fiery impression. |
