The ex libris of Gaspard-Ernest Stroehlin (1844–1907), a Swiss minister, historian of Protestantism, and professor at the University of Geneva, possibly depicting John Calvin teaching theology in St Peter's Cathedral, Geneva. His motto, 'Mente libera', also appears, along with his monogram. The additional inclusion of the name 'Champel', a district of Geneva, possibly alludes to the site where Michael Servetus, Calvin's opponent, was executed. Stroehlin served on the committee that erected the expiatory monument there.
