1926 x 1936 da Revolucao Nacional
The National Revolution of 1926 in Portugal marked the end of the
country’s unstable First Republic and the beginning of an
authoritarian era. Triggered by widespread political chaos, economic
instability, and social unrest, the military coup on 28 May 1926
brought a coalition of conservative and nationalist forces to power.
This led to the establishment of a dictatorship that eventually
evolved into the Estado Novo regime under António de Oliveira
Salazar. The revolution aimed to restore order and traditional
values, setting Portugal on a path of authoritarian rule that lasted
until the Carnation Revolution in 1974.
