A Palm Sunday decoration stands tall with a simple white cross at
its centre. Palm Sunday marks the beginning of Holy Week and
commemorates the day Jesus entered Jerusalem shortly before his
crucifixion. According to the Gospels, as he rode into the city on a
donkey, crowds gathered to welcome him, laying down cloaks and palm
branches in his path. This gesture was a traditional sign of honour
and respect, often used to greet a king or victorious figure. Palms
are used on this day as a symbol of that moment. In places where
palm branches are not readily available, other greenery such as
boxwood, willow, or olive branches is used instead, carrying the
same symbolic meaning.
