Phaseolus coccineus,
a vigorous climbing bean, is native to the highlands of Mexico
and Central America, particularly southern Mexico and Guatemala.
Unlike most beans, it is a perennial in its native climate. Beneath
the soil it forms a large tuberous root, allowing the plant to die
back and regrow for several years where frost does not kill it.. |
