| Dracaena trifasciata, also known as mother-in-law’s tongue, Saint George’s sword, and viper’s bowstring hemp, is native to tropical West Africa, where it grows in well-drained soils and is adapted to dry conditions. Indoors, it rarely flowers, and when it does, it often occurs because the plant is root-bound. Being cramped in a small pot creates a level of stress that signals the plant to produce seeds for survival. The flowers are narrow, tubular blooms that open into small, star-like flowers with slender petals, pale greenish-white to white in colour, opening primarily at night to release a scent similar to jasmine or honeysuckle. |
