| Crafted in Alaska, this mask is framed by a bentwood border and portrays a hunter’s kayak in motion. At its centre appears the face of a seal-like spirit with human features, while an enigmatic spirit is positioned above. A bird’s head at the bow may symbolise the hunter as perceived by his prey, and fish and flippers surrounding the vessel represent supernatural beings that pass through the spirit’s thumbless hands into the material world, where they become the objects of the hunt. |
