French rugby Olympic team
Gelatin silver print, 13 x 18 cm, by Rol agency, 1922
Bibliothèque nationale de France, Paris

The French Olympic rugby team pose in front of an advertisement for the humour newspaper Le Sport qui Pique at Stade Bergeyre, Paris. The side was composed of players from leading Paris clubs, including Racing Club de France, Olympique de Paris, the Club Athlétique des Sports Généraux, and the Sporting Club Universitaire de Paris, which together formed the French team that won the silver medal at the 1920 Olympic Games. They continued international competition leading up to the 1924 Paris Olympics. Here, the players wear early twentieth-century kit, including lace-up jerseys, short trousers, and soft caps typical of the period.
