Train accident at the Gare de l'Ouest
Citrate print, 22.6; W. 17.1 cm, by Leopold Louis Mercier, 1895
Musée d'Orsay, Paris

The train accident at Montparnasse occurred on 22 October 1895, when a Granville–Paris express overran the buffer stop at Gare Montparnasse. The locomotive broke through the station wall and plunged onto the street below. Though the accident caused dramatic damage, only one person was killed—a pedestrian struck by falling debris.
