| Ottavio Bizzozzero (fl. 1669–1690) | ||||||||||
| A portrait painter of the Lombard school, little is known about Bizzozzero. He was active in Milan between 1669 and 1690 and was noted for his commemorative and religious portraiture commissioned by civic and ecclesiastical institutions. The works that survive are considered of modest quality. His style reflects the late Baroque emphasis on solemnity and institutional reverence, often replacing earlier, less formal depictions with grander, more authoritative likenesses. Bizzozzero painted several portraits of benefactors of the Ospedale Maggiore di Milano (La Ca' Grande), which houses some of his works, including his best-known portrait of San Carlo Borromeo. His portrait of Giuditta Brebbia de Vatteville illustrates his role in memorialising prominent local figures through commissioned testamentary works. | ||||||||||
