Fantasy animal Bronze, black lacquer, attributed to Arent van Bolten, c. 1610-c.
1630, Rijksmuseum.
On a circular base the animal stands on both hind legs with split
hooves. The strongly curved back with pronounced spine merges into
the downward-facing, forward-curved long neck. The animal holds
the horizontally placed head with both forelegs, which has a protruding
lower jaw and horns and a ferocious expression. His goatee touches
the upper base, his tail pops up. This statuette is possibly an
oil lamp. Dimensions: 10.5 cm × w 10 cm.
