Title page verso from Catho moralizatus alias Speculum regiminis
Woodcut print, published 1498

Dionysius Cato's Catho moralizatus alias Speculum regiminis (Lyons, Jean de Vingle, 1498), also known as 'Disticha de moribus', is a collection of Latin proverbs or moral maxims attributed to Theobald of Chelsea, a 12th-century scholar. It consists of short, two-line verses (distichs) that provide advice on proper conduct, ethics, and the virtues that one should pursue in life. These proverbs were intended to guide people in leading a moral and virtuous life. The book was the most popular book in the Middle Ages.
