Ottoman costumes
Ink and watercolour on paper, 14.5 x 20 cm, anonymous, 1560–70
Bayerische Staatsbibliothek, Munich

From the manuscript Costumes and Genre Pictures of the 16th Century from Western and Eastern Europe, the Orient, the Americas, and Africa, probably published in Augsburg. Three men dressed in distinct Ottoman-style attire, each wearing elaborate headgear and robes that reflect their respective cultural identities. The first figure’s style displays authority and stature, typical of high-ranking military or official figures. The second is dressed in a typical Ottoman ensemble, while the third shows a figure with more Eastern Mediterranean characteristics, blending Ottoman and Greek styles.
