| Mary Ensor (c. 1837–1886) | ||||||||||
| Born in Delamere, Cheshire, little is known about Ensor, who described herself as an artist specialising in still life, particularly fruit and flowers. Her father, Henry Ensor, was a dentist and a landscape painter. Her focus on these subjects places her within a well-established tradition of British still life painting that flourished during this period. Her works demonstrate remarkable attention to detail and a harmonious use of colour and tone. Ensor was evidently influenced by artists such as John Anster Fitzgerald, known for his fairy paintings and detailed naturalistic work, as well as still-life painters William James Webbe and William Henry Hunt. She died in Birkenhead. | ||||||||||
