Box with Battle Scene
Silver gilding, and painted filigree enamel
; 5.7 × 11.3 × 8 cm
by House of Fabergé, c. 1896–1908
The Walter's Art Museum, Baltimore

In the style of Feodor Ivanovich Rückert, this decorated box features a scene of Igor Sviatoslavich fighting the Polovtsy, after Viktor Mikhailovich Vasnetsov's 1880 painting of the same name. The intricate filigree features a vibrant palette of enamels, including blues, turquoises, greens, olives, browns, and reds. Large, stylised flowers adorn the sides and ends of the box. A signature touch of Rückert's artistry is evident in the use of reddish-orange enamels, which echo the colours of the soldier's shield and boots in the depicted battle scene.
