| Folio 16 of the Mira calligraphiae monumenta, Ms. 20 (86.MV.527), an illuminated manuscript featuring paintings by Joris Hoefnagel and calligraphy by Georg Bocskay. The manuscript was created by Bocskay to demonstrate various writing styles. Between 1591 and 1596, Emperor Rudolph II commissioned Hoefnagel to illuminate the book. Hoefnagel adorned the pages with fruit, flowers, and insects, arranging them with a sense of harmony and balance. This collaboration between the artist and scribe is regarded as one of the most remarkable in the history of manuscript illumination. |
