| Aristides Oeconomo (1821–1887) | ||||||||||
| A Greek portraitist, Oeconomo was active in 19th-century Austria, born in Vienna and later settling in Athens. He emerged from the significant Greek diaspora in Vienna, training at the Academy of Fine Arts before furthering his studies in Venice. He became a member of the Vienna Künstlerhaus in 1861. His career flourished there over several decades before he moved to Athens in 1881, where he spent his final years. Oeconomo’s work reflects the connection between Greek heritage and Austrian artistic traditions, with a style that blended classical influences with the more modern trends of his time. | ||||||||||
