The figure is based on a lost 1913 painting, The Boyar by Konstantin Makovskii. The background is probably based on the Romanov Boyar House in Zaryadye, Moscow. The reverse side is inscribed 'In Fond Memory to Carlz Bruce from the Comrades serving the International Company of Omsk. 13 February 1914'.
