| Alfredo Perea y Rojas (1839–1895) | ||||||||||
| A Spanish painter, illustrator, and lithographer, Perea was born and based in Madrid. He studied at the Real Academia de Bellas Artes de San Fernando and later at the Imperial Academy in Paris. In 1860, he exhibited at the Exposición Nacional de Bellas Artes with his painting Felipe II Imploring the Help of the Divine Majesty, earning an honourable mention, and he became known for his technical skill and versatility across media. Perea largely focused on drawing, gaining significant recognition from 1868 for his contributions to illustrated magazines, including El Museo Universal, La Ilustración de Madrid, and La Ilustración Española y Americana. He also illustrated numerous novels and cultural books. The brother of prominent artist Daniel Perea, he was deeply embedded in the cultural life of 19th-century Spain, and remained active in artistic circles until his death in Madrid. | ||||||||||
