| Georges Tasnière (1632?–1704) | ||||||||||
| Born at Besançon, Tasnière was one of the most important French engravers of the Baroque period. He first studied in Paris, before working predominantly at the ducal court of Turin, at least between 1670 and 1678, and in Vienna. Principally a burin engraver, he produced many plates after the works of Jan Miel and Domenico Piola, signing his work 'Taurini'. His most well-known pieces are his portraits of the counts of Savoy, but he also worked on other subjects, including religious imagery and maps. His son, Bartholomé Joseph Tasnière, also became an engraver. Tasnière died in Turin. | ||||||||||
