After discovering the new
French style of painting, Impressionism, by artists such as Monet,
Pissarro and Seurat, Van Gogh began experimenting with the style by
producing a number of self-portraits in which he depicted himself as
a fashionably dressed Parisian. He went on to transform his own
artistic direction, moving away from his sombre Dutch style and
adopting the vivid colours that defined his later masterpieces. |
