During Abdullah's reign, the booming oil production brought about prosperity
and a surge in construction activities, reflecting his commitment to the
welfare of the people. He laid the groundwork for Kuwait's institutional
framework by establishing legal and constitutional bodies, promoting democracy
and independence. Under his leadership, significant strides were made
in education and healthcare, with the introduction of free education for
all, modernisation of schools, and the establishment of healthcare facilities
including hospitals and maternity centres. Additionally, infrastructure
development such as desalination plants, power stations, and low-income
housing projects were initiated, along with social support systems including
pensions for vulnerable groups. In 1961, Kuwait attained full independence
under Abdullah's guidance, forging new diplomatic ties with nations worldwide
and becoming a member of the United Nations in 1963. His legacy of democratic
governance continued with the formation of the first cabinet, drafting
of the constitution, and holding of general elections, establishing Kuwait
as a sovereign state actively engaged in regional and global affairs.
