| García
Álvarez
de Toledo
3rd Señor de Valdecorneja (–1430) Biographical 3rd Señor de Valdecorneja 1384–1430† Alcalde mayor de las Mestas Chief constable (alguacil mayor) of Toledo García appears to have devoted most of his efforts to managing and strengthening his estates, unlike those who came before him. In 1391, he secured royal permission from Enrique III to create an entailed estate, and a decade later, the king confirmed his acquisition of Bohoyo, which he incorporated into Valdecorneja along with some land in La Horcajada. He also established the first formal regulations for several villages in Valdecorneja, including Piedrahíta and El Barco, between 1405 and 1406. Although his primary focus was on his lordship, he maintained important roles in royal administration, serving under Kings Juan I and Enrique III, and followed family tradition as alguacil mayor of Toledo. From 1396 onwards, he regularly acted as the official responsible for overseeing the kingdom’s pastoral lands. While many have dated his death to 1430, evidence from local records indicates he probably died sometime between 1406 and 1411, since by 1411 his wife, Constanza Sarmiento, was acting as a widow on behalf of their children. Place of burial: Convent of de Santo Domingo, Piedrahita, Ávila Son of Fernando Álvarez de Toledo and Leonor de Ayala, he married Constanza Sarmiento before 1400, and had issue: • Fernando (see) • García • Gutierre • Constanza |
