AAs the Marquis of Vélez, José Joaquín was a
senator by right until the Revolution of 1868. He was elected senator
in the first Cortes of the Restoration, representing Cádiz
in 1876, and again became a senator by right after the Constitution
of 1876 restored the previous Senate system. He did not pursue succession
to the Dukedom of Fernandina.
