Giuseppe Emanuele di Savoia-Carignano 1st Comte de Soissons (1631–56) Other names: Giuseppe Emanuele Giovanni Biographical 1st Comte de Soissons 1632–56† Comte de Dreux Knight of the Order of the Holy Annunciation 1650 [Italy] In 1636 Giuseppe was in Spain with his mother and siblings as hostages until 1644 when they returned to Paris. Giuseppe suffered a strong stutter which made his time at the French court difficult, as it was for his brother Emanuele Filiberto with his own disability. They returned to Piedmont in 1649. Giuseppe died from smallpox. Place of birth: Carignano Place of death: Turin Son of Tommaso di Savoia and Marie de Bourbon-Soissons. |
