As did his father, Giuseppe Maria embarked on a military career in the
French army, reaching the rank of colonel. He distinguished himself with
brilliance during the
Russian campaign
and during the Restoration. In 1823, he accompanied the duc d'Angoulême
to battle in Spain.
He had been rewarded with the hereditary title of a baron of the French
Empire, with arms, in 1810.
He died from apoplexy.
Son of Prince Eugenio di Savoia-Villafranca and Elisabeth de Mahon-Boisgarin.
He married Paoline de Quélen de Stuer de Caussade in 1810, and
had issue.
