In 1500, Geneva had begun to embrace Lutheranism and oppose Savoy rule.
The duke of Savoy was preparing to invade the city, but Jean was able
to mediate and restore peace temporarily. In 1501, he was sent to
represent the duke of Savoy at the marriage of the daughter of Louis XII
of France to François de Valois.
