Margherita studied at the Catholic Institute, the École du Louvre,
where she obtained a diploma in Egyptology, and at the Sorbonne.
During the Second World War, Margherita was deported to Austria by the
Nazis, along with her sister and mother. She was thirteen years old at
the time. The family was freed in 1945, and after the monarchy was abolished,
they went into exile.

Daughter of Amedeo di Savoia-Aosta and Princesse Anne de France (Bourbon-Orléans).
She married Robert, Archduke of Austria-Este (Habsburg), in 1953, and
