Philippe was reluctant to embark on an ecclesiastical career, but it was
his grandfather's wish that he do so. In 1685 he joined a group of volunteers
and went to aid Francesco Morosini at Venice against the Ottomans.
He died of smallpox.

Son of Eugène-Maurice de Savoie-Carignano and Olimpia Mancini.
