In 1572 Renée's brother, Honoré, Comte de Tende, died without a will, and she claimed his lands of Tende, Marro and Prela, amongst others, as his heiress. Conflict arose between her and her uncle, Honoré the elder, over the succession of those lands. Eventually, troops were sent to Tende as factions on both sides clashed, with those supporting Honoré being banished by Renée. By 1575, the Duke of Savoy intervened, and through an agreement granted Renée the territories of Baugé and Rivoli in exchange for Tende, Marro, and Prela.
This agreement was renewed in 1581. She died after returning from a voyage to Jerusalem, after 1 May 1582. According to a court memorandum printed at Turin in 1623, she died in 1589.
