Governor general of the Milan 1733
French general 1733

Vittorio Amedeo was in conflict with his family for some time, and decided to move to Paris in 1718, together with his wife, Vittoria Francesca di Savoia. At Paris, he ran a gaming house built in the gardens of Soissons which proved to be a financially lucrative adventure. He returned to Piedmont briefly in 1714, but was back at Paris soon after. Having embarked on a military career, Vittorio Amedeo took part in the war of succession opposing France, and in response, Louis XIV confiscated the assets he held in France. These were restored to him after the treaty of Utrecht in 1713. He sided with France in the war of 1733 and was made a general. In 1736 he was sent to Luneville as the proxy for Charles Emmanuel IV for his marriage to Elisabeth of Lorraine.
