Son of Thomas Barton and Frances Morris, he married Agnes Childers, †1918, in 1876 and had issue:

• Charles Erskine, 1882-1918x, Captain in the Royal Irish Regiment, he served in World War I and was killed by a German gas attack on France. He was buried in Pas-de-Calais. He was married to Nora Greene in 1903 who remarried after his death.
• Thomas Eyre, 1884-1916x, Lieutenant in the Royal Irish Regiment, he served in World War I and was killed in the Battle of the Somme.
