L'Estrange Barton
(1856–1934) Biographical Mayor of Hawera 1910–11 res. Barton went to New Zealand in 1862 with his family but was educated in France. He returned to New Zealand and was admitted to the Bar in 1881. He practised in Dunedin and Wellington, and moved to Hawera in 1884, where he resided. Barton helped campaign for his imprisoned father’s election as MP for Wellington City in 1878.
