Barton was a principal tea buyer for Lyon.

Son of Charles Barton and Henrietta Richardson, he married Ethel Espeut (†1961) in 1910 and had issue:
• Mervyn, aka Patricia, *1915, married 1938 to Reginald Pilch, with issue
