Barton
(1766–1854) Biographical High Sheriff of Kildare 1840 Having accumulated a substantial fortune in Bordeaux, Barton used these funds in 1831 to acquire the Straffan Estate alongside various other properties, as well as Château Langoa and a portion of Léoville in St Julien Médoc. He was imprisoned during the French Revolution, but managed to flee to Ireland. Son of William Barton and Grace Massy, he married Anne Johnston, †1841, with issue: • Susan, 1793–1803 • Hugh, *1797, died young • Anna, 1798–1811 • Grace, died an infant • Nathaniel (see) • Isabella, 1806–97҂ • Susan Elizabeth, 1810–86, married 1828 to Eyre Massey, with issue • Charlotte, †1809 an infant • Thomas (see) • Daniel, 1806–>61, married Margaret Simpson, with issue: • Hugh Thomas, c. 1847–62 • Daniel Fitzgerald Pakenham. c. 1849–1907, Captain on the 7th Royal Fusiliers, married Victoria Peel in 1887, with no issue |
