Drum major
Second lieutenant of the guard 1839–49
Giovanni Battista joined the military, and during the French occupation
of Piedmont, was drum major in the Napoleonic army. After the war, he
joined the Piedmontese army in the Reggimento dei Cacciatori Italiani,
and took part in the expedition at Grenoble, for which he was awarded
a silver medal in 1815. He was with that regiment at Nice in 1821 when
it was disbanded by the end of the year. In 1839, he was appointed second
lieutenant for King Carlo Alberto of Sardinia, and retired in 1849.

Son of Giovanni Domenico Vercellana and Domenica Borra, he married Francesca
Griglio, and had issue.
