Diego Fernández de Miranda
(–1383)

Biographical

Diego was said to have supported the cause of King Pedro I of Castile against his brother Enrique, Count of Trastámara, later Enrique II. Despite this, and the resistance that he and other families continued to offer in Asturias after the death of King Pedro, he is said to have been granted the encomienda of the possessions of the monastery of Santa María de Belmonte in 1369. He was nevertheless exiled by King Enrique after the resistance was crushed. Reprisals against his family were not particularly severe, as his wife and sister remained in Asturias and continued to administer the family estate. After his return, probably following a pardon, he resumed control of the house. He drew up his will on 8 April 1383.
