Inés de Soto

Other names: Inés de Soto de los Infantes

Biographical

During the exile of her brother Diego, she was temporarily given leadership of the house by him. In 1374, the convent of Santa María de Belmonte transferred the encomienda of its possessions from Diego to her until his return. This made her one of the few women in the kingdom to attain the rank of encomendera. She has been identified as Inés de Soto de los Infantes, who was in a relationship with Alfonso Enríquez, the illegitimate son of King Enrique II and Count of Noreña. This could explain the unusual leniency enjoyed by the family despite its support for Enrique II's brother, Pedro I. On the other hand, Inés did not support Pedro I's cause, unlike her brother. Her relationship with Count Alfonso came to an end in 1385 after he was exiled to France.

Daughter of Alvar Díaz de Lodon and Inés N
, she had an illegitimate daughter by Alfonso Enríquez
