María del Pilar's entitlement to the duchy of Fernandina was revoked by royal decree in 2012, and her nephew succeeded her. She is the president of Christie's in Spain. She is sometimes referred to as the 13th Duchess of Fernandina because the last holder of the title, José Joaquín Álvarez de Toledo, would have been the official 12th Duke had he applied for legal succession.
