| The
Toledo family, later known as Álvarez de Toledo, traces its origin to
one of the principal Mozarab families of Toledo. It was claimed that the
family also descended from the Visigothic kings, although this was later
declared spurious. There is no evidence that the first verifiable member
of this family, Illán Pérez, was the son of a Don Pedro, Count of Carrión,
and supposed member of the Palaeologus family.
