Church of England

The Church of England, also known as the Anglican Church in England, is a specific national church and is part of the wider Anglican Communion. Its origins are rooted in the English Reformation, when Henry VIII broke away from the authority of the Roman Catholic Church in the 1530s, establishing the Church of England with himself as the head. The theological foundations of the church evolved over time, combining elements of Roman Catholicism and Protestantism. The English Reformation was further defined by Archbishop Thomas Cranmer's Book of Common Prayer, which remains central to Anglican worship. The Church of England played a significant role in shaping the religious, cultural, and political history of England and the broader Anglican Communion, which includes Anglican churches worldwide. The monarch serves as its Supreme Governor, and the Archbishop of Canterbury as its spiritual leader
. Whilst it remains the oldest and most prominent member of the Anglican Communion, the church is but one part of the larger Anglican tradition.
