External view of the south rose window, belonging to the south transept façade of the cathedral. Built in 1260 under the direction of Jean de Chelles and later continued by Pierre de Montreuil, it was donated by King Louis IX of France. It is renowned for its Rayonnant Gothic tracery, characteristic of rose windows of this period, and for its considerable diameter of almost thirteen metres.
