Gules, five
maidens proper in saltire, each holding an escallop Or; the escutcheon
environed by two serpents Vert, their necks entwined at the chief and
their tails at the point.
The
Miranda arms have variations, and the most notable concern the escallops.
Instead of the maidens' bodies being covered halfway by the five escallops,
as shown here, they are sometimes depicted as holding the shells over
their breasts, or sometimes with five gold escallops interposed between
the five maidens. Another variation shows the maidens wearing pleated
skirts instead of holding escallops, with their hands left free. |
