Originating
in the western Asturian mountains of Teverga, the House of Miranda gradually
extended its presence into neighbouring councils and towards the centre
of the region. Its rise was facilitated by a range of socio-economic
strategies employed throughout the Early Modern period, most notably
advantageous marriage alliances with prominent Asturian families from
the same or neighbouring councils. By marrying within the same social
and geographical circles, the family was able to increase its wealth
substantially.
