Domentziolus
(–610)

Other names: Domnitziolus, Domitziolus

Biographical

Magister officiorum 603–10

Brother to Phocas and Comentiolus and, Domentziolus was also likely the uncle of Domnitiolus II—a figure with whom he is occasionally conflated in subsequent Byzantine accounts. Phocas named him magister and tasked him with defending the Long Walls against Heraclius. However, when news arrived that Heraclius had advanced to Abydos, Domitianus deserted his post and retreated to Constantinople. Following Phocas’s deposition, Heraclius ordered his execution.

Son of Domentiza and an unnamed father.
